Abstract
CURRENT STATUS OF SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT IN PARBHANI (MAHARASHTRA), INDIA
*Anil Khole
ABSTRACT
Parbhani City, located in Maharashtra, India, faces significant challenges in managing domestic sewage and solid waste. The absence of a comprehensive sewage treatment system has resulted in untreated effluents entering local water bodies, contributing to environmental degradation. Solid waste management has seen partial progress with the establishment of a biogas plant at Borwand, which processes wet waste into energy. However, low public compliance with waste segregation and limited infrastructure for dry waste and composting continue to hinder sustainable outcomes. This study examines the impact of solid waste and sewage dumping sites on public health, as well as air, soil, and water pollution in Parbhani. There is an urgent need to improve urban sanitation strategies to enhance public health and ecological resilience in the city.
