ABSTRACT
Bone remodeling is a dynamic process that is closely controlled. It involves the coordinated actions of osteoclasts, which break down bone, and osteoblasts, which build it. When this balance is disrupted, it can lead to skeletal disorders like osteoporosis, arthritis, and problems with healing fractures. There is increasing interest in plant-based treatments that may affect bone metabolism, particularly those with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Hemidesmus indicus, also known as Indian sarsaparilla, is a traditional Ayurvedic medicinal plant. It is recognized for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-arthritic benefits. Recently, it has been considered as a possible option for improving bone health. This review evaluates current scientific evidence on the role of Hemidesmus indicus in bone remodeling. It looks at its phytochemical components, how it works, its effectiveness in lab and living models, and its potential as an anti-resorptive agent.
